Luxe Living: 5 Ways to Bring a Sense of Luxury into Your Life on a Budget

Although luxury is often associated with the rich, you don’t have to be a millionaire to enjoy it. With a bit of creativity and frugality, even those on a tight budget can afford to bring a little luxury into their lives. Below are five ways to do just that.

1. Fine dining (but at home)

Fine dining

Investing in quality cookware can kickstart a life of home-cooked luxury. Rather than eating out at high-priced restaurants, invest a fraction of the cost at your nearest farmer’s market to get high-quality veggies, meats, and more. Then, bring them home to cook up a delectable dinner.

Not only will this build a new skill to impress your partner and friends, but it also allows you to save money and widen your palette. Plus, with all that added savings, you can afford the occasional splurge at a fancy restaurant. To save even more, consider going for a lunch or happy hour meal to shave a bit off the final price.

2. Stock up on samples

If a full bottle of the latest luxury item is out of your price range, you can still get a little taste of luxury by stocking up on samples. Most high-end retailers willingly give out samples of their new products. Going from store to store can leave you with a basketful of luxury items to choose from.

Another option is to sign up to be a product tester. Brands – including luxury ones – send out new products to be tested before the official launch. After providing a bit of feedback, most companies allow you to keep the products.

3. Create luxurious surroundings

Home

Although luxury has a lot to do with having expensive items, it’s also about the feeling the expensive items give you. To experience the latter, you don’t always need to put thousands (or hundreds of thousands) of dollars on the line. Instead, you only need a few dollars to purchase some supermarket flowers.

After that, arrange them as a professional florist might. This can build up your sense of refined taste while giving your home a naturally elegant feel. Adding a few houseplants will complement the flowers well.

4. Bring the spa to your home

Making regular trips to the spa is a great way to feel luxurious. Unfortunately, it’s also a great way to get into debt if you don’t have the budget to support it. Luckily, there’s a middle way – bringing the spa to your home.

All you really need is a nice long soak in a bath. To do it with luxury, consider setting up ambient lighting, soothing music, flowers, an assortment of candles, and some finely scented soaps. Enjoy a fancy fruit tisane or a flute of champagne, and you’re practically royalty.

5. Shop at consignment shops and outlets

Shopping

If buying the latest designer fashion is out of your budget, consider visiting consignment shops to find better deals. Luxury brands often sell excess items to these shops to recoup some of their investment. Searching through the shelves is bound to bring up near-new or completely new designer clothes for a fraction of the cost.

Similarly, outlet stores stock luxury items from previous seasons. If not having the absolute latest fashion isn’t a problem, then you may find quality items up to 70% cheaper than the retail price. It’s a good idea to make friends with the staff and sign up for the outlet’s newsletter to stay on top of new shipments.

Keep the five tips above in mind, and you’ll be on your way to living a life of luxury without breaking the bank.
