How to Improve Your Garden Exterior Lighting

Floodlight fixtures are outdoor light applications for bright daylight-like light, not just that they also provide security to any exterior. They are powerful luminaries with a wide-angle of light spread to cover a wide area with uniform bright light. 

Gardens, pavements are commonly found outside residents and they need as much light as indoors for various reasons like security, ambiance and comfort of residents as well as people passing by.

1. Housing of flood lights 

The housing of LED flood lights is made up of either aluminum or die-cast aluminum. It has several advantages as aluminum is durable and can withstand extreme climatic conditions relative to outdoors like rain, heat and snowfall. It houses all the optical and electrical components of the fixture like the bulb, glass or polycarbonate lens, LED lamp, etc. 

The durability and IP rating enhances the application around the garden as the fixture is protected against any interaction with water, chemicals and dust while adding to the ambiance. 

2. They have higher lumen output 

LED floodlights are, without a doubt, the best lamps for floodlights compared to traditionally used halogen lamps as they are brighter than CFL lamps. LED lamps have a higher lumen output at the same wattage; this is highly beneficial as it requires a lesser number of fixtures to create the desired lighting layout around the garden. 

3. Directional Way of Lighting Due to Cut Off Designs 

Most floodlights have impeccable design options for various lighting needs. They are available in 4 different types of cut-offs. 

Semi cut off:

The light from the fixture is partially blocked by this design and it creates a semi-circular spread. The angle of the light beam is adjustable according to the elevation and position of the fixture. 

Full cut off:

This cut-off design throws light in one direction entirely, allowing installations around inaccessible areas.  

Forward throw: 

The lens of the fixture directs the light in forward direction, it is the most commonly used design.

Up/down flood lights:

As the name suggests, these designs throw light in either upwards or downwards direction. 

These applications are successful because they allow us to create layers of light and help create adjustable lighting patterns without any limitations. They are practically installable at different elevation angles and even on the ground due to these cut-off design options. 

Mostly for accenting any trees or shrubs around the garden they are objectively the best choice, not just that the boundary walls require facade lighting as well and they are quite a focal point for passersby.

4. They have an efficient heat dissipation system

A floodlight fixture is made up of durable metal and the outer is made up of resistant polycarbonate material, which adds to the durability and resilience. They are epoxy coated for protection against scratches or breakage due to an accident.

There are fin-like heat sinks built at the back of the most flood lights which actively release heat to the surroundings and keep the fixture cool and functional. They do not even require any additional start up time. 

5. Low Maintenance 

Once properly installed, LED floodlights do not require much attention throughout their functional life as they are long-lasting and comparatively deficient maintenance than most halogen floodlights. It effectively reduces the costs of maintenance and labor.

LED floodlights are practically an excellent investment for garden lighting for general lighting, security and ambient lighting. Regardless of the garden’s layout, big or small they are equally as effective and available in varying lumen outputs as well as sizes with almost the same and even better specs to suit any outdoor conditions.

Its temperature can be adjusted on a kelvin scale ranging from 2500 (warm yellow) to 6000K+ (cool white) for creating any theme for garden lighting suited for gatherings or general display.
