Should You DIY Your Own Nail Repair Gel?

The nail of a human body is a pretty durable thing. Made primarily of keratin, our finger and toenails share a lot in common with animal claws, as that’s what they evolved from as homologous structures. Though we don’t use our nails for the same purposes as claws anymore. They’re protective features that add some rigidity to our grip and step, and many of us like having our nails look great. There’s also a risk of fungus and a lot of pain caused by fungal infections, not to mention that they look nasty and smell worse. This is why there are so many repair gel products on the market today targeting nails.

But a lot of people want to know whether they should be creating their own DIY nail repair gel products. After all, anyone can read an ingredient label mandated by law to be on a bottle of repair gel, so you can simply recreate and tweak your own recipe, right? Well, things might not be as easy as they seem when it comes to creating these products.

Should You Create Your Own Repair Gel?

The short answer: No!

The fact is that while you might know which ingredients go into working repair gel products, you don’t know in which amount they go into the product. You also do not know which chemical, additive or ingredient mixes beforehand. There’s so much you don’t know. Imagine reading all the ingredients of a cake, assuming you’ve never baked one, without the instructions. You’d never know how much flour, baking powder and eggs to use. So, you should always purchase a good one instead of trying the DIY route when it comes to a quality repair gel.

Reasons to Buy Clinically Proven Gel Products

The Works is Done for You

When you purchase a quality nail repair gel product instead of going the DIIY route, the work is already done for you. You don’t need to pretend you’re back in a high-school chemistry class with your beakers and your utensils to mix everything up. There are safe, organic, all-natural products out there. That’s what most of the DIY crowd is going for, something that’s safe while also effective. The good news is that those products already exist. You just have to make sure you’re buying the right repair gel, and you can save yourself the trouble of making one.

Proven Results

Another reason to avoid the DIY route is that while your ingredients might be natural and organic and safe, you really have no proof that the gel you’re making will be effective at strengthening your nails, fighting fungus, etc. The thing about a working repair gel is that it already has proven results. You can find quality gel products on the market that have been clinically tested and proven to work. Again, it’s just a much easier road to travel if your goal is to have healthy, attractive, strong nails.

A Lot Safer in Numerous Ways

Purchasing a quality repair gel product is also a whole lot safer in a few ways. First and foremost, you don’t know how your combination of homemade ingredients will react. If you have cracks, you could inadvertently cause a bad infection. With a proven gel product, you already know that it’s going to be safe. Then there’s also the fact that the combination of ingredients you’re mixing, while maybe all-natural, might be harmful when you mix them up. So you won’t know if the leftover product is actually safe to dispose of. It could end up creating a toxic blend that really harms the immediate ecosystem for some different types of animals. That is certainly not your goal as someone considering a DIY repair gel. Sadly, however, that may end up being the result. Bottom line: It’s always safer to buy a proven product than to create your own.

At the end of the day, people seeking a repair gel that truly works for their nails will be much better served by going with a safe, natural and proven effective product. They do exist out there and are available for purchase.
