[Definitive Guide] How To Safely Use Essential Oils For Bathing?

The safety of essential oils is a major concern for many people.

There are so many things to consider when using them, from what kind of oil it is to how you store the bottle and where you put it in your home.

It can be unsafe if they are not used properly or if they come into contact with children who may drink them, accidentally get some on their skin, or try to taste the substance.

Let’s take a look at one way that essential oils can be safely used for bathing!

What Is Essential Oil?

Essential oil is basically a plant extract.

They contain strong flavors and aromas which don’t always fit for culinary use, so they are used more as part of a holistic treatment process.

Some essential oils may be helpful to those with respiratory conditions such as asthma or COPD due to their antibacterial and antifungal properties that can help minimize infection and offer relief from wheezing and coughing.

It also has relaxing effects that promote feelings of calmness thus aiding in improving sleep quality among those who suffer from insomnia or anxiety disorders.

Why essential oils are great for bathing?

The great part about essential oils is that you can put them into any formulation and get a new scent.

You can add them to the bathwater itself, add them to some foams like bubble baths and shampoos (which makes for an interesting show while showering), and even make candles by making a do-it-yourself candle.

What are the benefits of using essential oils in the tub?

List of some of the benefits:

  • It can relax muscles, relieve tension, reduce pain, and it also offers relief from skin conditions that are brought on by various circumstances.
  • Essential oils have very strong scents that enter your nose when you take a bath, which can benefit one’s mood because it “tricks” your brain into thinking the environment is safe and friendly
  • The scent will also relax the mind to induce sleep or euphoria if desired for meditation purposes.

You may choose to mix different essential oils together for an enhanced sensation since each oil has its own distinct properties which are great at soothing specific physical needs like muscle strains or eczema-related conditions for example.

How to diffuse essential oils in the bath? [ A 5-Step Process]

People have long diffused oils in the bath.

This is a great way to get your essentials directly on your skin for faster absorption, or through your respiratory system when you’re breathing them in.

Step #1: To diffuse in the bath, fill up the tub with warm to hot water.

Step #2: Add about 1/2 cup of Epsom salts and some essential oils to fragrance the water.

Step #3: You can use store-bought blends or create your own by mixing together various drops of different oils until you get something you like!

Step#4: Stir it around with your hand. The salts will dissolve quickly while the oil will stay suspended for longer.

Step#5: Sit back, relax, and breathe in those beautiful scents all around you! Once the tub is full, turn off the water and get in.

This method works best with some oils that are not very good for ingestion, like Peppermint or Clary Sage.

NOTE: If you’re unsure about a specific oil though always ask someone who knows before trying!

Safety Precaution While Bathing

  1. Essential oils are highly concentrated and should not be ingested orally.
  1. Direct contact with skin or inhaling substances can cause irritation, so please take care when using them around your nose, mouth, or children’s areas to avoid accidental ingestion.
  1. Essential oils can be both toxic and phototoxic if ingested in high doses.

If you’re planning on taking an essential oil bath for relaxation, note that essential oils do not dissolve in water and that it may take up to two hours for the full scent of the oil to disperse into your whole body.

  1. To experience this process more quickly, add a few drops of essential butter such as shea butter before entering the bathtub!
